James is an aspiring DJ and producer from Denver, CO. arriving at NYC eight months ago to dive into the art of creating electronic music.
Describe your relationship with music.
I grew up in a very musical home. My mother, with her Peruvian background, would blast Peruvian salsa and cumbia for hours on end. My father loved to play Flamenco guitar and would practice his new songs in the living room.
What brought you here?
I wanted to find opportunities that I knew didn’t exist in Denver at the time. I had heard positive reviews about The Foxgrove, so I gave it a shot. I’ve taken the Instant Beatmaker, Beatmaker Level 2, as well as the “Art of Sampling.”
What inspires you?
Deadmau5 was a huge influence for me growing up, as was Zedd and Mord Fustang. Today I listen to Eric Prydz, Mike Williams and Laszlo, just to name a few.
What’s your future musical plan?
I hope to be able to always advance my career while expanding my knowledge for the craft. I want to DJ professionally and release records in the near future.
What else do you love besides music?
Rick and Morty, Chipotle, Dragon Ball Z and stand up comedy!
One fun fact about you.
I hosted an online radio show in middle school that ran until my freshman year of high school. I would discuss current events and perform comedy sketches.
