What’s your relationship to music?
There was always music in my home growing up. My mother was in one of the first all-female rock bands and opened and toured with bands like The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane etc and then she was the musical director for WPLJ in the 70's. My father played numerous instruments, so I was surrounded by incredible eclectic music. Now, I have a huge array of vinyl in my home from every genre and I really listen to everything from Hip-hop to Motown to classical to zydeco to classic rock, alternative, and metal. It's all over.
What brought you here?
My daughter had been dying to take DJ classes and I've always wanted to learn — being able to listen to music is such an incredible experience, but being able to make it is mind blowing. We took the Instant DJ class and I'm just waiting to be able to have the next series fit into my schedule.
How was your experience?
Phenomenal. First, the studio is a gorgeous surprise! Very beautiful and well put together. Experience is everything and walking into the Foxgrove starts the experience beautifully. The class was taught at a wonderful pace with excellent direction and was SO FUN! I left feeling so inspired and excited.
What inspires you?
It sounds so nerdy, but anyone who is passionate about what they do. I can be so creatively inspired by that. It doesn't matter if they are an artist, a sanitation worker, a contractor, a dancer or a scientist — there is an art in everything you do and when it is done with passion it really inspires me to do great things — creative things. There is a lot of beauty in passion — the way people speak or move in what they do. I love it.
Any future musical plans?
We purchased the DJ deck and plan to just have fun and make music for our life. What better way to spend any downtime than experiencing all different music and being able to make new music.
What else do you love?
Spending time with my husband and daughter, hiking, drinking scotch with friends and family, riding my bike, boxing, dancing.
One fun fact about you.
One of my first concerts was The Beach Boys & I was sitting on scaffold backstage. The drummer ran up mid set and gave me his drumsticks. 30 years later I'm at a concert with my daughter (her first concert) and one of the bands’ people randomly walks through the audience and hands her the drummer's drumsticks from the ones he just swapped out.
