As the world remembers and celebrates the legend that is Prince, we can take comfort in the fact that his music (and his influence on music) will live on forever. He changed the landscape not only when it came to his groundbreaking pop music, but paved the way for change in fashion, culture and the way we think about gender.
Already there's a plethora of memorial pieces and posts exploring that legacy – but lest we all get too serious, here's a story you might have forgotten. It's about that time Prince screened "Finding Nemo" at an after party.
Who would you rather invite to pump up your party: DJ Questlove, or a sad fish baby?
For Prince, the answer was fish baby. Hands down.
Questlove hilariously narrates this short for Okayplayer, setting the scene as he goes from waiting in line outside a concert venue to being tasked with planning an after-party DJ set. A golf cart may or may not be involved. In the end, Prince rejects his services in favor of screening Disney’s “Finding Nemo.”
Goes to show that even those of us booking Coachella can encounter stiff competition from unlikely adversaries. Let that be a lesson to you, aspiring DJs: if you get fired from a gig, there are more fish in the sea. Interpret that however you like.
