What’s your relationship to music?
I listen to music pretty much all the time… My uncle is a DJ from the Brazilian funk group Furacão 2000. My father and other relatives played a lot of instruments around me throughout my childhood.
What music do you listen to?
I would say that 85% of my music is probably electronic, usually House, Techno, Minimal and Disco. During my teen years, I listened to grunge, punk, mod rock, glam pop, disco, rap and Brazilian funk. I am interested in African genres too, especially the ones that influence Brazilian music.
What brought you to the Foxgrove?
I read good reviews of it in Rolling Stone. Also, the Foxgrove was the only school that could fit my schedule and budget when I traveled to NYC for two weeks. I also like the whole concept of learning basics and being able to further develop my skills by myself.
Tell us about your time at The Foxgrove.
It was brilliant. Ben, the instructor, was very kind. Since I took private classes, he could fit the lessons to exactly what I was into. I learned the basics very quickly and was able to produce a final 6-minute Minimal Techno track that I am very proud of.
Who or what inspires you?
I listen a lot to Nicolas Jaar, a DJ based in NYC, and to Silicone Soul, Detroit Swindle, Bonobo. I love dark aesthetics, so 80s glam rock such as Bauhaus, Joy Division and The Smiths are a huge inspiration. Last, but not least, I love crazy sounds from my daily routine. I’m planning to make a track with a baseline based on the sound of a subway train approaching the platform.
Any future musical plans?
I am planning to become a DJ and music producer in the near future. I am really into it and this is my true passion.
What else do you love besides music?
Photography, cinema, traveling, technology, politics and social sciences.
One fun fact about you.
I can't play any sports at all :(
