Describe your relationship with music. What music do you listen to?
My relationship with music runs deep. There was always music when I was growing up. My father was an avid music listener who was also into stereo components, always in search of that “perfect” sound. Western classical music feels like home. I have a soft spot for rock music, often bringing back the memories of a group of friends who devoted their youth for playing and making music. In recent years, I’ve come to love live music, be that classical orchestra, pop, jazz, experimental, opera, whatever.
I basically listen to anything that intrigues me and sounds good, regardless of its genre.
What was it like to take classes here?
It was the first place I got to know that offered classes like DJing and electronic music-making in the city for non-music professionals. I took the Instant DJ and Art of Sampling classes. The DJ class was super fun—I now see it as an art form. Art of Sampling was jam-packed with fun info that actually made me more appreciative of contemporary music-making.
What inspires you?
Anything and everything that happens in my daily life… Meeting someone who is not afraid to be themselves.
Any future musical plans?
As a video artist and filmmaker, I have always been making some form of sound and melody. I’m now interested in discovering and working with musicians who create something unusual.
What are your other loves?
Yoga, feeling close to faraway friends and family, changing old habits, reading books about things that are new to me.
One unknown fact about you.
I’m writing a sci-fi fantasy screenplay. Most of the material for the story came during my daily meditation, to my complete surprise.
