Songwriter and producer Jonathan aka “New Work” discovers the joy of DJing after producing music for a long time.
A brief introduction to yourself.
My name is Jonathan aka 'New Work.’ I'm a born and raised New Yorker from Harlem. I'm a songwriter and producer who's worked with a few well-known names in the industry.
Describe your relationship with music. What music do you listen to?
I have a very deep relationship with music, not only do I create but I also enjoy listening to sounds from all different genres. From hip hop to reggae, classical to rock, I’d enjoy it if it's genuine and good quality. I even have some Brazilian lounge music on my playlist!
Why did you come to The Foxgrove?
I initially came to use the recording studio to work with David, on a project for an artist I often collaborate with. After learning about the classes, I was excited and wanted to experience it for myself. I took the Instant DJ course.
Describe your experience.
Very exhilarating! I learned a lot of things about the art of the DJ, its history and a ton of cool techniques that I was familiar with but never knew how to execute. It was fun!
Who/what inspires you?
My creative inspiration is life. I thrive on experiences and moments and I use them to draw lyrics to songs and also create rhythms and vibes that people will enjoy.
Any future musical plans?
In the future, I plan to keep collaborating with artists, producing hits and ultimately releasing solo music of my own and go on a global tour to reach the masses. Sounds that need to be heard and felt worldwide! Myself along with The Foxgrove’s co-founder, David Maurice have recently partnered as a production duo and will soon be cranking out the hits for the world to hear. Stay tuned!
What are your other loves?
Besides music, I love to cook. I enjoy the time it takes to prepare the food, adding tasty ingredients, and more importantly, the satisfaction of anyone who eats a meal I prepared is fulfilling and brings me joy.
One unknown fact about you.
I can wiggle my ears with complete muscle control. No hands! I can flap them like Dumbo lol!
